Rail journeys proper with passengers began in England with the sections Stockton-Darlington (1825) and Liverpool-Manchester (1830). More than 20 years later, the inaugurations of the historic Spanish lines of Barcelona-Mataró (1848) and Madrid-Aranjuez (1851) were carried out, all with locomotives and most of the imported fixed or rolling material.
