Se introduce la noción de exergia en el campo de las radiaciones térmicas, señalándose su interés en todos aquellos procesos en que la emisión térmica es importante. Se demuestra el carácter irreversible de la emisión y absorción térmicas, determinándose los incrementos de entropía y las consiguientes pérdidas de exergia a que dichos procesos dan lugar. Utilizando un simple modelo, se ealeula el contenido en exergia para la radiación ideal negra, e igualmente, a partir de un sencillo balance, se determina la exergía para una radiación gris. Finalmente, a partir de la fórmula general que define el intercambio de exergia entre dos superficies cualesquiera, se establecen balances de exergía en sencillos modelos, consistentes en superficies grises y negras de geometrías sencillas.
