ABSTRACT
The increase of the market demands on innovative, functional and aesthetic products, friendly with the environment, has given a great relevance to the design and development of sustainable products. To achieve this goal, it is important to undertake a process of innovative design that will include sustainability requirements so that the product and its associated system become eco-efficient in its life cycle. This is the reason of this study, aimed at developing a model of design and bioinspired development, within the areas of the research concept of “Cradle to Cradle” and also based on the professional performance of eco-innovation, eco-design, eco- industry and on a whole within industrial ecology. The Genomic Eco-design Model (GEM) is defined as a methodology for designing products based on satisfying both individual and collective needs under the new paradigm of Cradle to Cradle. It focuses on eco-friendly product design and it is integrated within the regulatory framework of ISO standards for life cycle analysis, eco-design and eco-labeling.
KEY WORDS: sustainability, eco-efciency, ecodesign, cradle to cradle, life cycle analysis, eco-effectiveness, eco-innovation, ecoproduct, ecoprocess.
