Ball-burnishing is a secondary process to improve the physical-mechanical properties and surface finishing of manufactured parts. Despite being known for more than 30 years, it has recently increased its industrial use in several applications such as manufacture of injection molds, tools for metal forming, as well as, diverse components in the automotive, railroad and aerospace industries; so its research is fundamental. In recent decades, various research has focused on the theoretical, numerical and experimental study of the ball-burnishing process; in order to study, predict and analyze the influence of specific parameters to improve the understanding of the process and the optimization of the parameters involved in it. In this paper, an analysis of various experimental studies on the ball-burnishing process is presented. This analysis allows to speed up the understanding of the process, presenting an updated study of the state of the art and identifying the areas of opportunity to improve the process.
