This paper presents a review on Artificial Intelligence, its current state of development and future perspectives in the area of Engineering. To do this, a brief review of the origins of Artificial Intelligence is carried out, in order to analyze the main advances achieved so far from a practical point of view. Finally, some considerations are made on the possible ethical problems that it is possible that the society has to face with the advance of this technology. Finally, the possibilities of this field in engineering are analyzed.
