ABSTRACT:The three dimensional numerical heat transfer analysis for laminar air flow is presented for Re 100, 150, 200 and 250 in different geometrical configurations of a perforated fin. The flow behavior is determined by means of sizing the recirculation zones attached to the fin in different x-z and x-y planes, and for the thermal analysis the Nusselt number is computed. Velocity and temperature contours are also presented to complete the hydro and thermal analysis. A higher Nusselt number is found for a solid fin when compared with a perforated fin, however the friction coefficient is smaller in the perforated one. The fin with a single row of perforations has the best average thermal behavior in all the cases Key Words: Perforated fin, solid fin, 3D numerical simulation, Nusselt number, friction coefficient, ANSYS Fluent.
