Nuclear Fusion aims to be a relevant source of energy in a future sustainable energy scenario. It will be a massive source, environmentally safe and based on abundant natural resources distributed throughout the planet. Although the scientific-technological progress made in the last decades towards this ambitious goal is being colossal, much of the interested public and the scientific community in other fields perceive the practical realization of fusion nuclear energy as a promise that seems to run away as we move toward it. This article aims to analyze briefly the current situation and the main challenges that must be overcome in the coming decades to reach the goal.
