ABSTRACT: An experimental study of a bubble mode absorption in a Plate Heat Exchanger -type absorber with the NH3-H2O mixture was performed. The ammonia entered the absorber in the bubble mode using an inner vapor distributor. NH3-H2O was used like working pair. The Plate Heat Exchanger-type absorber was designed for uses in absorption solar refrigeration devices. It is advantageous to use a distributor of ammonia gas, injecting a liquid solution flow, comparing it to a liquid distributor, same as is used in falling film. It was used as ammonia-water pair of work (NH3-H2O) in tests absorber; absorber is used then to engage absorption refrigeration equipment (conventional or solar). It was designed and built a test circuit that allowed characterizing the absorber at different operating conditions to generate a template with experimental data to develop a mathematical model that will subsequently be used for specific designs in refrigeration, either to increase or decrease in cooling power scales. The absorber was characterized by using water on both sides of the Plate Heat Exchanger. Tests were made with NH3-H2O to obtain an internal temperature profile during the absorption process. The NH3-H2O solution used had an ammonia concentration starting at 2% by weight, and reaching 13% by weight. The absorber pressure was 4,8 bar. The solution flow rate was in the range of 0,025 a 0,033 ±0,42 X10-3 kg·s-1. The mass flow rate of ammonia vapor at saturation condition was in the range of 0,993 to 1,500 ±0,017x10-3 kg·s-1 and the mass flow rate of cooling water was 0,31±0.04 kg·s-1. Empirical correlations were obtained based on experimental data during the absorption process with the NH3-H2O mixture.
