ABSTRACT: In this paper presents an analysis of the influence of the fuel in the energy, exergy and ecological efficiencies of a thermoelectric plant, which uses three types of coal as an energy source. A methodology for the analysis of energy, exergy and ecological efficiencies was applied in which the energy efficiency was evaluated with the first law of thermodynamics, while exergy efficiency was evaluated according to the second law of thermodynamics and ecology efficiency was evaluated by the parameter indicator of pollution and the concept of carbon dioxide equivalent. Fuels used for this study are design coal, Sabinas coal and imported coal. The results show that imported coal is the best because it produces a higher exergetic efficiency ( 24.52 % and 23.73 %) and improved eco-efficiency ( 69.2 % and 68.6 % ) , for their conditions of design and operation , however it is necessary to use deferent mass flows for the same energy efficiency for the three types of fuel. Keywords: efficiency, energy, exergy, power plant.
