Currently there are numerous types of implants, each one seeking to perform more like the natural behavior of the knee. Factors such as contact stress, kinematics and fatigue, have been studied to validate the quality of implants. Characteristics such as the number of compartments, materials, mobility and anchoring method, have been analyzed giving a large list of implants on the market. Results of this literature analysis are useful to guide further studies in this field, considering several parameters and materials reported in other investigations that could lead us to perform new knee implant models or explore new design concepts like lattice structures and energy absorption with a perspective toward biomimetics design by using additive manufacturing. Keywords: Implants, biomimetic, lattice, absorption, biomaterials.
